Overview

As a line manager you are responsible for both developing your staff’s skills and knowledge and also assessing their progress. Assigning various objectives and standards to the staff member and monitoring their progress achieves both these aims.

It will be necessary for you to record a judgement against each objective and standard before you finally close the review. This may be left to the end of the review period but it can be done at any time during the review period.

Instructions

We shall look at objectives first.

Practical Task:

  1. From My Staff select the staff member and go to their Portfolio

  2. Select the Objectives tab

  3. Select each objective in turn for editing

  4. View the information on all the tabs

  5. The Status should be showing as In Progress

  6. Click on the down arrow and change this to either Met, Partially Met or Not Met

  7. Select the Staff Agreement tab and enter the two passwords

  8. Click the red Save button

Observe how the objectives screen has updated the status values and the graph. The screen should look similar to this:

Standards are rated both by the reviewer and the reviewee. We looked at how the reviewee rated their own standards in the first training course. The method is the same for the reviewer.

Practical Task:

  1. From My Staff select the staff member and go to their Portfolio

  2. Select the Standards tab

  3. Select each standard in turn and click on the down arrow in the Reviewer Rating column

  4. Select one of the dropdown options by clicking it

After applying your ratings the screen should be similar to this:

Notice:

Your rating can be changed at any time until you close the review should you change your mind

The graph summarises your ratings and the reviewee’s in the form of two polygons with points further from the centre indicating higher ratings

Your graph is drawn in grey and the reviewee’s in red

The graph enables you to judge if your reviewee has overestimated or underestimated their standard compared to your judgement
